The meeting among others was also attended by Additional Commissioner of Karachi, Kamran Shamshad, DC - East, Samiuddin Siddiqui, DC- South, Mustafa Kamal Qazi, DC -Central, Dr Saif ur Rehman, DC- West, Ganwhar Ali Laghari and DC- Malir, Kazi Jan Mohammad. The Commissioner, Syed Hashim Raza Zaidi on the occasion lauded the polio workers, including the selfless workers who lost their lives during past two days, that it was due to their sincerity and commitment to the cause that Karachi remained "polio free" during past 11 months.
He said the achievement is also consequent to the focussed attention of President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister, Raja Pervez Ashraf, Sindh Governor, Dr Ishrat ul Ebad, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah and Sindh Health Minister, Dr Saghir Ahmed towards eradication of polio virus from the local environs.
Syed Hashim Raza Zaidi expressing his heart felt grief over the unfortunate killings of polio workers said these brave ladies has further strengthen our commitment to the cause of absolute elimination of polio virus from the country. "This would not bog down our efforts and instead would be undertaken with additional zeal," said the commissioner of Karachi.
Later talking to journalists, he said oral polio vaccination (OPV) campaign is conducted in all 178 union councils of the city and these include 50 UCs that are considered to be high risk and extremely sensitive areas. He said Karachi has been divided into three categories viz-a-viz vaccination campaigns and protection of the concerned workers.
